The painted bunting is a sparrow-size or smaller bird that is native to North America.They like to be in thick, grassy areas or woodland edges, as well as the understory of semi-open forest. Males mostly have blue heads, red bellies,and green wings. However the coloring of females is basic: bright yellows and greens.The painted bunting loves to eat seeds and fruit, they also like to eat insects, including caterpillars and flies. They mostly eat insects in the early summer. Sometimes the males are called the “nonpareil” meaning ‘unrivaled’ because of their unbelievable colors.
