YVONNE Y. Deer

Yvonne Y. Deer. American California-based artist and art educator working in watercolor, oil, graphite, charcoal, digital, colored pencils, mixed media. Yvonne’s work explores portraiture, nature, memory, and the quiet emotional connections found in her everyday life. For Yvonne, art is not limited to a particular medium or subject. She is drawn to the beauty, character, and emotion found in people, nature, places, memories, and everyday life. Whether creating an intimate portrait, a quiet watercolor landscape, or a large oil painting, she seeks to capture something beyond physical appearance—a sense of presence, atmosphere, and human connection.

Since 2015, Yvonne has also dedicated herself to art education through Our Beautiful Arts, sharing her knowledge with students while encouraging them to develop strong artistic foundations, confidence, creativity, and their own individual voices. For Yvonne, making art and teaching art are closely connected: both are ways of observing more deeply, expressing what words cannot, and connecting one person to another.

“I cannot imagine a world without art. Art is the original universal language through which we all relate to one another.”

– Yvonne Y. Deer

Yvonne Y. Deer with her mom
Yvonne grew up surrounded by art. Her mother, a trained Chinese painter, was one of her earliest and most important artistic influences. Watching her mother paint and create throughout her life gave Yvonne a deep appreciation for dedication, craftsmanship, and the lifelong pursuit of art. Her mother also encouraged her to study Western fine art, giving Yvonne an artistic foundation shaped by both Eastern and Western traditions.

Yvonne Y. Deer‘s mom
Yvonne says: ”My Mother has always inspired me by working relentlessly, painting & writing daily. Even at 70 years young, Mama still loves what she does, and never slows down. My dream is to live as she has, for her blood flows through my veins and sustains my heart and my mind.”

This piece was ordered by a beautiful woman before her wedding – to present to her future husband.

The Eastern Girl (2007)
This piece was requested & ordered by a man who, after 30 years of his life, still remembered and yearned for his long lost first love. Her family had moved when they were young teenagers, and after years of searching for her, he finally came to the painful realization that he may never see her again . So then he turned to Audrey Y. Lu and asked her to recreate their inspirational magic. Only an artist is capable of creating an eternal creation such as this unique collection.
